My name is Anni Toikka and I got my first basenji Multi Ch Windmaker Sijambo Bwana in 1993. Originally I was interested in greyhounds but the greyhound-like
African basenji captured my heart with its distinctive features. "Jambo" did quite nicely in the puppy classes - winning BIS2
puppy out of 800 puppies. He got his two first CC's from his two first shows in junior class - huge International shows in
Helsinki. A couple of years later he was a Best in Show winner in an
international dog show. Jambo was also one of the very first basenjis to compete in official lure
coursing competitions.
Jambo was accompanied by his male puppy Ikelas Bayanga, "Idi". Idi did not turn out much of a show dog but he was and still is a
very much loved "sofa champion".
Our flock increased with two basenjiladies in 2002 and 2003 when Ch.
Sternhimmels Carpe Diem and Ch. Sternhimmels Ex Bona Fide came to share our lives.
These fine little girls finished their champion titles easily and showed that a very primitive dog CAN be also obedient. Both of them compete in agility
- more or less succesfully - Aida in medi2 and Nala in medi1. Nala has also passed Canine Good Citizen Test.
